Tennessee on September 2, 1925, Toombs came to Nashville in 1937. He began his
musical career on WHOP radio in Hopkinsonville, Kentucky in the mid-forties, and
he started writing with McAlpin around 1950. Toombs later became a staff writer
for Cedarwood Publishing in 1965. His songs were recorded by country stars such
as Jim Reeves,
Roy Drusky,
Ernest Tubb and
George Morgan, among others.
