Chanteur US né le 29 janvier 1885 à Jeter Plantation, Mooringsport (Louisiane), de son vrai nom Huddie William Ledbetter. Leadbelly, après de nombreuses années de prison, a débuté en 1934 et a enregistré dès 1935 pour la bibliothèque du Congres ! C'est alors qu'il rencontre Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie et Cisco Houston. Leadbelly, bien que noir, était un vrai "Folk Singer", qui savait interpréter le folklore des Cowboys. Décédé à New York le 6 Décembre 1949, il n'a pas bénéficié du succès qu'il méritait.
