Cousin de Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl McVoy fit ses débuts en 1956 pour le label Hi Records de Memphis (Tennessee). Les bandes sont revendues à la Sun qui les sortira en 1958 sur Phillips International. Excellent instrumentiste, il rejoignit le Bill Black's Combo en 1959. Il enregistra aussi pour Tri Records en 1961. Carl McVoy est décédé le 3 Janvier 1992 à Jackson (Mississippi).
