Chanteur et acteur Country US né Jerry Bisceglia, le 17 Janvier 1910 à Harrison (New York). Tex Fletcher est décédé le 14 Mars 1987.
born Jerry Bisceglia, January 17, 1910, Harrison, New York, USA, d. 1986. A fine singer/yodeller and left-handed guitarist, although little is known of his early life. He probably made his debut as an entertainer withBuffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. He worked briefly as a cowboy and sang on radio in Yankton, South Dakota, which probably led to later claims being made that he originated from that state. He spent most of his time in New York and between November 1936 and June 1937, he recorded 13 sides there for Decca, including two duets with Joe Rogers. He made 10 further recordings, this time with his Lonely Cowboys, between October 1937 and February 1938. The material varied from standard cowboy ballads (‘The Zebra Dun’) and family songs (‘A Song For Mother’) to the popular ‘I Get The Blues When It Rains’ and the strangely titled ‘Meet Me Tonight In The Cowshed’. His Hollywood success consisted of a few musical shorts and his claim to being a singing cowboy was confined to a single starring role, in 1939, inSix Gun Rhythm. Grand National Pictures closed just as it was released and he was left to promote his film himself. He was drafted for army service during World War II, which prevented him from moving to another studio to continue his singing cowboy career. After his discharge, he returned to New York and for many years, he was popular as The Lonely Cowboy, on WOR radio.
During the 50s and 60s, he also appeared fairly regularly on television. He published two songbooks and made countless personal appearances. Copies of his recordings, originally released on both Decca and Montgomery Ward, are rare, but ‘The Yodelling Cowboy’s Last Song’ appears on MCA’sCowboy Image compilation.
