Bill MONROE
Chanteur et fiddler US né le 13 septembre 1911, originaire du Kentucky. Bill Monroe a débuté avec ses frères en 1934 et enregistre un premier disque en 1936 chez Bluebird Records. En 1939, Bill nomme son groupe les "Blue Grass Boys" en hommage à son état et devient l'hôte régulier du Grand Ole Opry de Nashville (Tennessee). Son vocal très haut perché est accrocheur et il fut accompagné par de véritables virtuoses. Créateur du Bluegrass, il a fait école et des milliers de groupes de ce style sont nés. Victime d'une crise cardiaque, Bill Monroe s'est éteint le 9 Septembre 1996. Quatre jours avant son 85ème anniversaire.
